Lawmakers Look to Exempt Bellvue from Berger Closures

Albany Times Union is reporting:

ALBANY -- Four Capital Region lawmakers submitted legislation Thursday to exempt Bellevue Woman's Hospital from the group of hospitals statewide set for closure or consolidation.

"I'm very optimistic we're going to be able to save Bellevue," said Sen. Hugh Farley, R-Niskayuna. "I'm going to do everything I can."

Farley and three Assembly members -- Majority Leader Ron Canestrari, D-Cohoes, Minority Leader James Tedisco, R-Schenectady, and Paul Tonko, D-Amsterdam -- submitted identical bills to exempt Bellevue from the restructuring recommendations of the Commission on Health Care Facilities in the 21st Century, also known as the Berger Commission.
