Two Troubled Hospitals Get $6M Loan, Watchdog

State Health Commissioner Richard Daines just announced plans to provide two Queens hospitals with more state funds "on condition that they allocate the money exclusively for worker salaries, employee pensions, health insurance and payments on taxes and penalties." The Health Department has also assigned an independent monitor to oversee operations at Elmhurst's St. John's Queens Hospital and Jamaica's Mary Immaculate, in order to make recommendations for improving their financial management.
