Cancer disparaties in the Finger Lakes area
In a recent study of the Rochester area of New York, it was found that:
- Black men are 16 percent more likely to get cancer compared with white men.
- Black men are 48 percent more likely to die from cancer compared with white men.
- Black men are 91 percent more likely to die from the top two cancers — prostate and lung — compared with white men.
To address these racial disparities, the Finger Lakes Health Systems Agency is creating an African-American Health Coalition.
