Nine hospitals ordered to close by June 30, 2008

On January 31st, the New York State Health Department established a timeline for phasing out the nine hospitals recommended for closure by the Berger Commission. The hospitals, five of which are in New York City, were notified that they have until September to submit their closing plans to the health commissioner, and that they will be shut down entirely by June of next year.
